PROCEDURE OF RW MANAGEMENT






                            Step 4: Conditioning of radioactive waste



                                 Conditioning is those operations that produce a waste package suitable for handling, transporting,
                                 storage, and/or disposal



                                 Objective of conditioning radioactive waste is to convert the waste into a form, which is



                                   i.     Leach resistant, such that the release of radionuclides will be slower even though they are in
                                          contact with liquid
                                   ii.    More stable mechanically, thermally, chemically, radiological, throughout handling, storage and

                                          disposal



                                 The operations are including


                                   i.     The conversion of the waste to a solid waste form by an addition of immobilization agent

                                   ii.    Homogeneous material with lower leaching rate than the unprocessed waste
                                   iii.   An enclosure of the waste in containers

                                   iv.    Providing an over pack
