PROCEDURE OF RW MANAGEMENT

Several options of radioactive waste disposal have been implemented, reviewed, banned or considered

such as:

1. On Surface/ Municipal Refuse Dumps
❖ This is limited to certain category of waste, which has been exempted from regulatory control. The
calculated dose to individual and population are insignificant.

2. Near surface/ Shallow land burial < 30 m

❖ Considered for waste having mainly short-lived radionuclides.
❖ It is important to determine the safety of such option and is only justified if the risks humans and the
environment are acceptable.

❖ Low cost of construction and maintenance
