Step 1: Collection of Radioactive Waste

First step of radioactive waste management generally is collection of radioactive waste at

the point of arising.

Step 2: Segregation of Radioactive Waste

Segregation of radioactive waste during the collection steps is an important steps for

efficient treatment.

Radioactive waste shall be classified based on their radiological, physical, chemical and

biological properties.
The container shall be clearly;

(i) Mark with the details such as types of radionuclide, activity, half-life, physical, chemical

form and
other non-radiological hazard.

(ii) Bear a radiation symbol

(iii) Be robust
(iv) Compatible

(v) filled and emptied safely throughout the expected period of storage
