❖ For disposal of intermediate and high level long-lived wastes; eg. The reprocessing of spent
fuel.
❖ Burial in beds of salt, shale or granite appears to be technically satisfactory for isolation of
the waste.
❖ Dry, stable area, free from earthquake and volcanic action.
