EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROCEDURES INVOLVING RADIOACTIVE

CONTAMINATION

Action to be taken by lab assistant/operators

1. Shut off all mechanical ventilation system and close all outside opening
2. Cover radioactive spillage with absorbent to prevent widespread

3. Evacuate the area concerned
4. Rope off contaminated area and post radiation signage

5. Monitor clothing and body for any sign of contamination
6. Remove clothing immediately and wash all parts of body if contaminated
7. Inform RPO/RPS

8. Take further action based on the advise of RPS/RPO

Action to be taken by RPS/RPO

1. Advise operators/lab assistant on further action to be taken

2. Call for decontamination team
3. RPO/RPS inform AELB within 24 hours

4. Prepare report and ready for submission to AELB within 30 days

Note: Decontamination team must wear and use proper PPE during the operation
