Radiation detectors should have the following characteristics:
▪ Good stability
▪ High efficiency
▪ Ruggedness
▪ Energy independence
▪ High resolving power and low cost
▪ Scintillation detectors and proportional counters are used for radiation
spectroscopy measurements and they are more efficient in detecting gamma
and x-rays.
