PROTECTION AGAINST EXTERNAL HAZARDS
(SHIELDING)
Example of calculation for thickness of shielding
Exposure rate from a radioactive material without shielding
is 1600 µSv.hr -1 and HVL or lead is 3 cm. What is the
exposure rate if the thickness of lead used as shielding is 12
cm?
A 50 µSv.hr -1 I = I .e - 0.693x/HVL
x
o
B 100 µSv.hr -1
I / I = 2 n
C 150 µSv.hr -1 o n
