Nuclear Gauging System
3. Thickness gauge:
▪ Used to measure thickness of a material or a coating material.
▪ It works on transmission principle using a gamma or a beta source.
▪ Also works on backscattering principle using a beta source or reactive
principle using a low energy gamma source.
▪ Thicker materials attenuate or scatter more radiation and the reduction
is proportional to the thickness.
