EMERGENCY RESPONSE ACTION
Leak of a radiation source:
In the event of physical damage to a sealed source or its housing, potential damage
caused by abnormal mechanical pressure on the source, it has to be assumed that
the source is damaged and may leak radioactive substance.
In such situation, the Work/Shift Supervisor should:
Isolate the source, its housing and items that have been in contact with them and
avoid moving them unnecessarily;
Erect barriers around the potentially contaminated area(s), prevent access to
them and restrict the movement of persons that have entered them; and
Inform the RPO/RPS for further action.
