EMERGENCY RESPONSE ACTION

 Leak of a radiation source:

In the event of physical damage to a sealed source or its housing, potential damage

caused by abnormal mechanical pressure on the source, it has to be assumed that

the source is damaged and may leak radioactive substance.

In such situation, the Work/Shift Supervisor should:

 Isolate the source, its housing and items that have been in contact with them and

avoid moving them unnecessarily;

 Erect barriers around the potentially contaminated area(s), prevent access to

them and restrict the movement of persons that have entered them; and

 Inform the RPO/RPS for further action.
