OBJECTIVES

❖Protection of man and his environment from unnecessary radiation

exposure without eliminating the beneficial application of radiation

and radioactive materials.

❖To prevent non stochastic effects (early effect) by setting dose

equivalent limits at levels that are sufficiently low to ensure that no

threshold dose is reached throughout the individual’s lifetime.

❖To limit stochastic effects (late effect) by ensuring all justifiable

exposure is low as reasonably achievable, economic, and social factors

taken into account, as long as the dose equivalent limits are within

the boundary set by the regulatory.
