Slow or thermal (E  0.025 eV)

Resonance or intermediate (0.5 eV to about 100 keV)

Fast ( 100 keV to 10 MeV)

Relativistic (E > 10 MeV)

 Produce recoil nucleus that causes ionisations (indirect)

 Neutral - long range, external hazard, much more damaging than 
