➢ What is ‘Radiation”?

Radiation is a general term used to describe emission and

transmission of energy through space or medium in the form of

                             waves, or particles.

➢ Radiation consists of two types: ionizing and non-ionizing

                              radiation.

                                   • Ionising – α, β, γ, x, n, p, etc.

                                   • Non-ionising – microwave, radio, visible light, IR

➢ Ionizing radiation causes ionization whereas non-ionizing

radiation does not cause ionization when it interacts with matter.
